More people own cameras today than at any time since the first handheld prototypes were made in 1685. You can take a picture on your phone, share it and have it seen by the world in a matter of seconds. And yet, there is something about an artist who is willing to travel every highway, back road and Main Street to put things in perspective that remains essential. Victoria Sambunaris and Peter van Agtmael see things in ways most of us do not and can translate those visions into something powerful and unexpected, even when we are the objects of their contemplation.

Our special online component to their Double Vision feature in FADER 64 includes a randomly organized slideshow of Peter van Agtmael's photos of his travels, with his narrative, and a magnified look at the wide angles of Victoria Sambunaris' American landscapes.
